The history of Bar Harbor

Bar Harbor use to be called the Town of Eden.  The town of Eden's name was changed to Bar Harbor in 1918.  Bar Harbor became a summer resort.  Until this day, there are alot of tourists that came to visit Bar Harbor.  The first hotel built in Bar Harbor was built in 1855 and it was called the Agamont House.  As more and more people came to visit Bar Harbor, more hotels and cottages were built.  There are many pictures in the museum library of the summer "cottages".  The National Park was organized in 1916 and named Sieur De Monts monument.  In 1919 the name was changed to Lafayette national park and then changed again in 1929 to what we now call Acadia National Park.  There is an exhibit of the first superintendent of the park, Mr. Door.
