1947 Fire of Bar Harbor

In 1947 a fire burnt throughout Bar Harbor burning 17,000 acres in 2 weeks which was 1/3 of the forest on Mount Desert Island.  The fire was cause by human carelessness.  What made it worse were the drought and the high winds.  The face of Acadia was changed forever. The black area in the map below is what was burnt from that horrible fire.
