Getting to know the Pekepoo

Pekepoos are considered designer dogs.  The pekepoo has a non-shedding coat which is awesome for people with allergies.  I have asthma and the pekepoos do not bother me.  I can love them all day long without having an attack brought on by them.  They're very friendly dogs and very playful too.  The pekepoo is very protective of his/her owner(s).  Pekepoos are very good indoors and go without a very big yard but I love to have alot of land to let them run and play with me out there with them.  Pekepoos are fun dogs to have around and I am sure you would enjoy them also.  Don't get me wrong, I love all dogs but my little pekepoos and my babies and are treated like royalty.

Grooming of the pekepoo (small dog breed)

The pekepoo is a mix of pekignese and poodle.  They can weigh between 12-18 pounds, which my female weighs 12 pounds and my male weighs 18 pounds.  They are very lovable dogs and also very hyper.  They need their exercise, which they usually can do on their own.  My pekepoos run through the house about 100 miles an hour chasing each other, it's so darn adorable.  Pekepoos can have as little as 3 puppies in a litter or as much as 8 puppies in a litter.  My pekepoo had 2 litters and each time 5 puppies.  They are very good watchdogs and only bark when they hear something out of the ordinary or sees someone or something outside.

The history of Ellsworth Maine

According to the censes in 2010, the population in Ellsworth was over 7,000.  People from all over the U.S. and canada come to visit Ellsworth each year.  I just recently learned that the passamaquoddy tribe originally inhabited the Ellsworth area.  Ellsworth replaced Castine as the county seat of Hancock County in 1838.  The Maine Legislatur incorporated Ellsworth as a city in 1869.  In 1923, Ellsworth faced their first disaster, the Great Flood.  In 1933, Ellsworth faced yet another disaster, the Great Fire which destroyed most of Ellsworth's downtown commercial district.

The best restaurants in Bar Harbor

Some of the restaurants in Bar Harbor are the best in New England.  They have a variety of fine dining.  Who doesn't enjoy a nice home cooked meal, I know I do.  The seafood is at the top of the list and is fresh every day, as you will see them docking at the pier and unloading.  If your not in the mood to eat and just want a few cocktails or beers, there are quaint little pubs and breweries in town.  Click the title of this blog and you will see a list of fine restaurants whether you want to dine in or grab a bite to go.

1947 Fire of Bar Harbor

In 1947 a fire burnt throughout Bar Harbor burning 17,000 acres in 2 weeks which was 1/3 of the forest on Mount Desert Island.  The fire was cause by human carelessness.  What made it worse were the drought and the high winds.  The face of Acadia was changed forever. The black area in the map below is what was burnt from that horrible fire.

The history of Bar Harbor

Bar Harbor use to be called the Town of Eden.  The town of Eden's name was changed to Bar Harbor in 1918.  Bar Harbor became a summer resort.  Until this day, there are alot of tourists that came to visit Bar Harbor.  The first hotel built in Bar Harbor was built in 1855 and it was called the Agamont House.  As more and more people came to visit Bar Harbor, more hotels and cottages were built.  There are many pictures in the museum library of the summer "cottages".  The National Park was organized in 1916 and named Sieur De Monts monument.  In 1919 the name was changed to Lafayette national park and then changed again in 1929 to what we now call Acadia National Park.  There is an exhibit of the first superintendent of the park, Mr. Door.
